Eureka mignon grinders are popular for a reason. They are of good quality, they are quiet, they look nice and they are reasonably priced. They however have a very evident flaw: the grind size adjustment dial is too small, too sensitive, too imprecise. Once you touch it, good luck going back to its previous setting. It makes it impossible to switch between different roasts and brew methods in a consistent way.

A tiny proxy server for the home network
Tired of always having to type that ssh -D ... command and change your browser proxy settings to let your connection exit from somewhere else in the world?
Or, even better, do you want several devices on your LAN to be able to just send their stuff over the tunnel and beat some stupid geo-fencing even if they can’t ssh themselves?
If you have a spare Raspberry Pi (or whatever other linux box), here is a simple way to setup a tiny proxy server for your LAN :)

Bike ride: Tharandt - Altenberg - Glashütte - Pirna
When I started this blog, quite some time ago, I didn’t really know what to write about. I only wanted to play around with building a static blog on gitlab pages using hugo. That’s it. I wanted to see how it works and to set it up, but then this poor thing just sat here with no new content.

Bike ride: Stolpen - Hohnsten
From Dresden to the Sächsische Schweiz and back, through beautiful bike paths and fields
This past spring had a bit of a hit-and-miss weather and I was desperate to get out for a longer ride. And I was really looking forward to be able to ride this route specifically.
Part 1: rolling hills
The start is not the best, since you have to fight your way through motorized traffic during the climb out of Dresden.
But after Bühlau the route gets on a beautiful bike path that replaced an old railway and goes through fields and small villages.
Both the views and the silence are amazing and, especially during spring, this stretch is really a joy to ride and a great way to unwind from the work week.
How runtime systems can support resource awareness in HPC: the HPX case
A seminar + literature survey
During the summer semester 2018 I attended a seminar course called Future Trends in High-Performance Computing (FT-HPC). During the semester I was assigned the task of researching the literature about the topic of resource awareness and producing a survey paper and a presentation.
I chose to focus on a rising star among runtime systems for HPC, HPX, trying to understand to what degree and how it can support resource awareness, reporting on its strengths and limitations.

Hello World :)
Hello World, this is my first post in a blog in a veeeery long time.
I know, around a decade ago the blogosphere was already dying and now, in 2019, I am coming back with a new blog… I though about this for some time now: I would like to have a space where to write about some tech, some of my hobbies, maybe some science (???).
And I would like to do it in the old way, not social at all, peaceful, in a way that probably no one will ever read it :)
