When I started this blog, quite some time ago, I didn’t really know what to write about. I only wanted to play around with building a static blog on gitlab pages using hugo. That’s it. I wanted to see how it works and to set it up, but then this poor thing just sat here with no new content.
Now I finally have something I really want to write about: in the past couple of years I have been riding my bike quite a lot and I want to share the rides I liked and enjoyed the most. I have already shared with you one of my favourite training rides around Dresden, now it’s instead time for a longer one I rode only a couple of times: it starts in Dresden and goes all the way up to Altenberg and the Czech border.
Since I last rode it about a year ago, I don’t remember enough to make a detailed description of the route. Maybe the komoot track below will be enough to convince you to give it a try :)
What I can do, though, is to give you some tips for this ride:
- There is little shade on this ride: if you ride it during summer it will be a hot day. You will need to carry a lot of water with you.
- If you go on a Sunday, it will be close to impossible to find water (and food). Especially on the first half of the ride. Especially in Altenberg, where you need it the most. Don’t ask me how I know it…
- There is a sketchy water source along the bike lane between the village of Altenberg and the border crossing, in case you are really dying. Again, don’t ask me how I know it.
- On the way down in the Müglitz valley there should be a couple of biergartens along the road, keep your eyes open! For sure there is one right after the Weesenstein castle, though it is almost at the end of the descent…
Enough talking, enjoy the track and the ride!
